The Buzz About Urban Beekeeping
Rising is passionate about having a positive impact in the communities we invest in and the environment that surrounds us. Over the past year, we have been working with Alvéole to install three beehives at two of our buildings — The Park DTLA and One Cal Plaza — as a pilot program. In total, we have adopted 150,000 honey bees.
Bees have been declared the most important living beings on earth. In fact, 70% of the world's agriculture depends exclusively on bees. Among the amazing things they do, pollinating plants and allowing them to reproduce is by far the most important. Within the past few years, almost 90% of the bee population has been wiped out, making them an endangered species. By creating a safe habitat where they can thrive, we are doing a small part in saving the bees and we are committed to doing more by installing three additional beehives throughout our portfolio by the end of 2021.

Just with our 3 beehives, our bees have pollinated 25.14 square miles! Not to mention, we have yielded 90 lbs of honey! It’s been a very special and impactful experience not only for our property management teams but for our tenants as well.
