Bingo’s Positive Impact at Catalina Landing

Rising Realty Partners embraces community impact both as a core philosophy and as a progressive business strategy. Motivated by that ethos, Rising-managed Long Beach office campus Catalina Landing formed a partnership with People Assisting The Homeless (PATH) in 2018. PATH connects vulnerable populations to permanent housing with wraparound supportive services and addresses the root cause of homelessness, as well as the symptoms.

Rising first became involved by leveraging their network of tenants and partners to collect toiletry items and other “Care Kit” essentials. Since then, the team led by property manager Catherine Hutchings has planned dinners for the residents of Long Beach & 21st, a supportive housing community geared towards seniors, and hosted Bingo tournaments called "Bingo Bonanza" for employees and tenants to play with the residents every month.

Bingo Bonanza features household goods, gift cards, and other items donated by Rising, building owners, and PATH as prizes for each round, with a grand prize finale. Some talented residents have donated their time and talents, such as crocheting a gorgeous throw blanket to offer as prizes too. All participants get to pick from the 'Grab Bag' just for playing. Grab Bag items include travel-sized toiletries, discounted bulk products, marketing swag, or other freebies sourced from neighborhood Buy Nothing networks.

Everyone loves to take home prizes, but the real benefit of the event is a chance to gather with friends and neighbors. The competition can be fierce, but the bonding is real. There is often even a singalong to the background music, which the first participant to arrive is allowed to select.

This Bingo tournament model has been so successful, that PATH has adopted it at other locations throughout Los Angeles.
